European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO)
The integration of the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa (JOP) into EFNYO (European Federation of National Youth Orchestras, based in Vienna) in May 2013, at the General Assembly held in Bucharest, marks a historic moment for Portuguese musical culture. The JOP thus became Portugal’s representative in this European and international organisation.
Admission to EFNYO represents an important step in the consolidation of the orchestra both institutionally and internally, and is seen as an expansion of the music sector in Portugal, by sharing experiences and knowledge with other members, as well as contributing to the technical and artistic enrichment of the orchestra’s members.
In May 2015, JOP hosted the EFNYO General Assembly in Lisbon. This meeting, which had the logistical support of the Directorate-General for the Arts and the National Library of Portugal, was attended by representatives of young orchestras and festivals from various European Union countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Scotland, France, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the Young Orchestra of the EU, Canada and the United States, Turkey and the Arab countries.
MusXchange
The MusXchange musician exchange programme, funded by the European Commission under the auspices of EFNYO, and of which JOP is a member, has already enabled Portuguese musicians to take part in internships with the most renowned young European orchestras. The JOP has also been able to host musicians from orchestras associated with this programme. We’d like to highlight a few countries: Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Holland, Austria, Slovakia, Scotland and England.
Dudamel Foundation
Founded by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, the Foundation’s aim is to help young people have better access to music and art. The Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa (JOP) is its creative partner, along with institutions such as the Berlin, Vienna and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras. Several JOP musicians have been able to take advantage of this international programme.
